THE THING I DIDN’T KNOW I DIDN’T KNOW
by Brent Hartinger
BK Books, 2014

The continued adventures of Russel Middlebrook from THE GEOGRAPHY CLUB.

We join Russel and his close friends brainy confidante Min and quirky straight besty, Gunner. Russel is now 23 and floundering to find himself and his direction, and feeling that the world is divided between those who have careen driven ambition(Min) and passionate aimlessness (Gunner) — neither of which he feels. Until he saves the life of Kathy-Griffinesque “Vernie” -an older ex-screenwriter who opens his eyes to the world of potential. Meanwhile… Kevin has materialized back into Russel’s life, making Russel really question the past, present and future.

I love Brent Hartinger’s voice, and following Russel’s evolution. My favorite line: “Writers try to make sense out of life…They divide it up and give it structure, make it feel like it’s going somewhere.”  Yeah. That.

Enjoyable read. 🙂
